PINCH

vigotripleshelvingunit_1

Pinch is the collaboration between husband and wife team Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon. Their aim is to design fantastic quality products; simple, elegant and approachable, for real people’s lives and they are very good at it too, winning numerous awards since founding the company in 2004.

Highlights for me include the ‘Alba’ sideboard and ‘Yves’ writing desk.

Barbara Hulanicki started her career in fashion as a fashion illustrator. She covered all of the important fashion collections in Europe for the major publications of the day, including Women’s Wear Daily, British Vogue, the Times, the Observer and the Sunday Times.
Exasperated by the disastrous street fashion in England, her husband Fitz encouraged her to design her own clothing. Biba was born and eventually, expanded into a five story art deco building, flanked by rock stars and celebrities of the day. After Biba, she continued to work in Fashion, designing for Fiorucci and Cacharel as well as her own brand in Brazil.
In the nineties she arrived in Miami Beach where she designed interiors for Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones and Chris Blackwells Boutique Hotel Group. She is credited with the resurrection of Miami Beachs crumbling Art Deco district.

Her art deco inspired creations can be found at Graham & Brown

Florence Broadhurst Rugs

jaofloralplum

The extraordinary life and designs of Florence Broadhurst continue to captivate and inspire twenty years after her murder. Anyone who is not familiar with the extraordinary life and work of Florence Broadhurst will soon learn!

“…the golden age of Florence Broadhurst is just beginning” (Sydney Morning Herald).

From inauspicious beginnings as the daughter of a cattle farmer, Florence Broadhurst continually reinvented herself thoughout her colourful life as she moved from vaudeville performer to couturier – Madame Pellier in 1930′s London. She was in her 60′s when she launched her wallpaper business but her designs took off like wildfire. Florence Broadhurst abandoned convention and the restrictions of mass production, leaving the traditional, conservative handprinted wallpapers behind. Instead she created hundreds of unique and luxurious patterns. She combined fuscia pinks, lemon yellows, lime greens, vivid oranges, turquoise, blacks, metallic silvers and gold – all perfectly matching her own flamboyant personality. In Florence’s life and her artistic evolution it is almost impossible to separate fact from fiction with the roller coaster ride reaching a shocking end with her, as yet, unsolved murder in 1977.

Her wonderful creations can be found at Knots Rugs.

Artek Lighting

bilberries_11

System thinking and standardization are the basis of the
Artek product range. The variety of different surfaces,
dimensions and materials makes Artek’s standard furniture
flexible and functional for today’s interior architecture.

I especially like their lighting range which has a real modern retro feel to it.
