igl jet. Form for function. Space age 1970s desk makes a comeback!

IGL JET DESK
A big thank you to Tobias at Sensufaktur for bringing this stunning space age desk to my attention.

In 1970 Ernest Igl designed a desk. Its revolutionary form and unique manufacturing process made it an immediate icon, redefining design standards.

Free from the conventions of fashion and technology, and unconstrained by the need of compatibility, the igl jet got his very own expression.

Soon my posts are going to seem Retro!

museum image 2

Firstly, sorry to all you regular readers of TFCR out there for my lack of posts last month.

I have recently started a new job working for a stunning contemporary furniture showroom called CHAPLINS in Hatch End, Middlesex. The showroom even has its very own Design Museum so for the first time in my life I actually look forward to getting up in the morning!

CHAPLINS pieces are regularly featured in interior design magazines such as Elle Decoration and Living Etc so I am sure many of you will be familiar with both their name and the brands they stock such as Vitra, Knoll and Kartell.

Anyway, once things have calmed down I hope to get back up to speed so please keep checking back! J x

The talented people at ilovedust, a design boutique based in a picturesque fishing village called Emsworth on the South Coast of England have looked to compliment the design classic that is the DCW chair by Charles and Ray Eames by using the relationship between the designers as their main source of inspiration.

Art meets furniture design in the form of Cappellini Homage to Mondrian Cabinets.

The talent of two great individuals of the last century fuses together to create a modern design, both abstract and concrete at the same time.

Cappellini revisits the magical work of Shiro Kuramata in a new cabinet series inspired by the Dutch abstract painter, Piet Mondrian. Available in two versions, the cabinets are created from lacquered wood and mounted on wheels; inside, they hold spaces and drawers for gathering and safekeeping dreams and memories.

Dieter Fan by Air Design Group

dieter

Loving the less-is-more feel of this portable fan by Air Design Group. The Dieter fan was named after Dieter Rams who was a German industrial designer most famously known for his work on consumer products such as coffee makers, calculators, radios and audio/visual equipment for the company Braun.

The beautiful audio player below shows why Dieter Rams designs still influence the likes of Jonathan Ive (Apple Inc) when it comes to simple, sleek consumer design.

Finished by hand, each Vers system takes over a week to build and each one is unique. Lets just hope it sounds as good as it looks!
