Something a bit different from I Love Retro are these illustrated film prints. There are six films to choose from at present and each one measures 11 x 16 inches. My personal favourite is the ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ one but maybe that’s because it reminds me of my youth seeing as it was one of the books we had to study at school… oh to be 15 again!

The founders of INK – Joff Casciani, Ollie Wood and Haydn Evans couldn’t find anything they really wanted to put on their walls. Everywhere they looked they saw reproduction artworks, painfully hip artworks for loony prices or prints that looked like they had been designed by a machine rather than a human.
So they set about making truely sublime posters which were colourful, at times deep and meaningful but always a talking point. Either lithographed or silk-screened, Ink is printing on some beautiful papers, all 100% recycled sheets with a critical eye tuned to detail and colour.

Art meets furniture design in the form of Cappellini Homage to Mondrian Cabinets.
The talent of two great individuals of the last century fuses together to create a modern design, both abstract and concrete at the same time.
Cappellini revisits the magical work of Shiro Kuramata in a new cabinet series inspired by the Dutch abstract painter, Piet Mondrian. Available in two versions, the cabinets are created from lacquered wood and mounted on wheels; inside, they hold spaces and drawers for gathering and safekeeping dreams and memories.

Two of my favourite things combined… Eames and the Camouflage Design:

Yasumichi Morita’s contribution to hhstyle.com’s “green style” auction is a customized Eames “La Chaise”. Fitting the theme, Morita has painted the chair camouflage. The goal of natural decoration is met through the customization.

Now this what I call a work of art….
“When Charlie Kratzer started on the basement art project in his south Lexington home, he was surrounded by walls painted a classic cream. Ten dollars of Magic Marker and Sharpie later, the place was black and cream and drawn all over.”

By far the best thing to come out of London being awarded the 2012 Olympics are these stunning retro abstract designs by Alan Clarke. His thinking behind these posters was to convey the movement and energy of the games, in a simple abstract way.
These posters are just a proposal at present but they certainly get my vote!

Inspired by the opening cry of Little Richard’s rock & roll hit ‘Tutti Frutti’, this fantastic print was designed and printed at Hand & Eye Letterpress by Phil Abel, Nick Gill and Rosa De Carlo.
The bright colours chosen are in reference to the fruity lyrics, and the immediate visual impact of the wood letter is as close as typography can get to Little Richard’s yelp that begins the song.
