A future classic if ever I saw one! This occasional ‘Egg Table’ designed by Russell Pinch for Benchmark comes in several sizes and three different lacquered finishes.

Excellence in design, materials and craftsmanship form the foundation of Benchmark, producing contemporary classics in a sustainable way that will last several lifetimes.

The Benchmark collection includes designs from well known names such as Terence Conran, Thomas Heatherwick and Russell Pinch as well as pieces from up-and-coming young designers.

Handmade to order in certified timbers by skilled craftsmen at their workshop in West Berkshire, the range is sold direct to customers at workshop prices from their showroom which they positively encourage their customers to visit.

Barcelona designers Mediodesign have created a birch plywood chair in homage to the Eames elephant. Named the Elephant Lounge Chair, this birch plywood chair was inspired by both the LCW Molded Plywood Chair and the Elephant Stool designed by Eameses in 1945.

The chair cleverly slots together like a puzzle which in turn means that there is very little waste during production, something which is very important in this environmentally conscious society that we live in today.

In terms of design philosophy, Kursi does not confine itself to one particular aesthetic; nor does it intend to adopt a particular house style. Having said that, they confess to having a penchant for all things mid 20th Century - which can be seen in the lovely sideboard which is kind of retro-futuristic!

Designed by Abdul Ghafoor, this unique sideboard takes into account a variety of storage needs. The case is built of plywood, while the base is constructed from sapele (a hard wood with similar properties to mahogany). The lead time on an order is roughly 12 weeks.

For more details go to Kursi

The founders of INK – Joff Casciani, Ollie Wood and Haydn Evans couldn’t find anything they really wanted to put on their walls. Everywhere they looked they saw reproduction artworks, painfully hip artworks for loony prices or prints that looked like they had been designed by a machine rather than a human.

So they set about making truely sublime posters which were colourful, at times deep and meaningful but always a talking point. Either lithographed or silk-screened, Ink is printing on some beautiful papers, all 100% recycled sheets with a critical eye tuned to detail and colour.

Yomei’s aptly named ‘Magic Cube’ cabinet can be converted from the inside into your choice of a make-up/dressing table, a coffee/bar cabinet or a computer/office centre.

My personal favourite is the glamorous make-up table shown above with its light-up rear view mirror, numerous drawers, cosmetic mirror with 5x magnification and integrated power outlet for hair dryer or electric shaver, it provides a true haven of personal care for men and women alike.

Loving the less-is-more feel of this portable fan by Air Design Group. The Dieter fan was named after Dieter Rams who was a German industrial designer most famously known for his work on consumer products such as coffee makers, calculators, radios and audio/visual equipment for the company Braun.

The beautiful audio player below shows why Dieter Rams designs still influence the likes of Jonathan Ive (Apple Inc) when it comes to simple, sleek consumer design.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with the furniture design workshop Unto This Last, their purpose is to offer you the convenience of the local craftsman workshop at mass-production prices.

They design along a single principle; less dependence on heavy industrial processes, more use of innovative digital tools adapted to the small workshop.

All their furniture is made from a special birch ply composite and they have an ever increasing catalogue with more than 200 cleverly designed pieces to choose from.

Unfortunately they only deliver to London to help save on packaging cost but if you are ever in the area I highly recommend going down to see their workshop in action.
